Beef Rendang


Ingredients:
(Used a food processor to paste)
4 stalks lemongrass
7-8 shallots
5-6 cloves garlic
1-1/2 fresh ginger
1-1/2 galangal
5 kaffir leaves
2-3 tbsp chili paste
1-2 tbsp turmeric powder (1-1/2 fresh turmeric)
1kg Beef  ~ cut into cubes (I used daging goreng type)
2 pcs Turmeric leaves ~ tied a knot
500-700ml coconut milk
Oil for cooking
Salt & sugar

Directions:
  1. Heat oil & sauté all the blended ingredients in a slow fire till fragrant
  2. Add the beef & stir the mixture well.
  3. Add 500-700ml coconut milk & turmeric leaves.  Continue stirring.
  4. Simmer until boil & do not forget to stir.  Once boiling, adds salt & sugar (I used brown sugar) to taste.
  5. Keep stirring till the gravy thickens.  The whole process takes about 2-3 hours.
  6. Best served with rice or bread.  Of course Lemang & Ketupak too.  Give it a try.
